Stop SOPA Now!

As many of you have heard, SOPA is a real threat to the internet. Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as H.R. 3261, is a bill that was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011, by Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX) and a bipartisan group of 12 initial co-sponsors. The bill expands the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. What it is going to do in real life is censor the internet, and take away our first amendment rights. It is going to stop exactly what the internet is used for, the free exchange of information and data. It is also going to put ISP’s, search engines, web hosts, and just about everyone else at risk of legal action if anything “illegal” takes place on any of their software/hardware. Yet somehow, GoDaddy has actually come out in support of this horrible legislation. The NetCoalition, a collection of ISP’s, web hosts, search engines, and other IT companies has been doing all that it can to stop this. HostGator, the web host and domain reseller that I use, has written a great article as to why they have come out against it. Please do all that you can to stop this legislation.
